Storage Group Rules

The following rules apply to storage groups:

  • A storage group name can contain only alphanumeric characters and underscores (_).

  • Storage group names are case-insensitive.

  • Storage groups are serviced by zero or more archives. For a storage group to be available, it must be serviced by at least one archive that has a running SM.

  • An archive always services the UNPARTITIONED storage group. An archive may service zero or more specific (named) storage groups, added using the nuocmd add storage-group command.

  • An archive that does not specify a specific storage group will still service the UNPARTITIONED storage group. In addition to associating a table with multiple storage groups, a table can be created and assigned to just one storage group.

In a database with multiple storage groups, an SM may service more than one storage group and a storage group may be serviced by more than one SM.
