Starting and Stopping NuoDB Admin

Whether using NuoDB Admin (nuoadmin), or using nuoagent to manage a NuoDB domain, only one administrative tier may be active at any given time.

Starting NuoDB Admin (DEB and RPM package installations)

Where NuoDB was installed using either the Debian Package Utility or the RedHat Package Manager (and NuoAgent is the installed domain and database management interface), you can start NuoDB Admin (nuoadmin) using the nuoadmin-enable command as follows:

/opt/nuodb/etc/nuoadmin-enable

Note: Current functionality of NuoDB Admin does not support starting a running database that was created using the NuoAgent (nuoagent) administration tier. The nuoadmin-enable command shuts down the NuoAgent admin tier, if it is running, prior to starting NuoDB Admin to ensure the two admin tiers are not running simultaneously.

Starting NuoDB Admin (TAR installations)

Where NuoDB was installed using a Linux tar file, you can start NuoDB Admin using the nuoadmin start command.

Note: As stated, current functionality of NuoDB Admin does not support starting a running database that was created using the NuoAgent administration tier. Unlike with when using nuoadmin-enable, NuoAgent isn't automatically shut down when using the nuoadmin start command. If a database is being managed by NuoAgent, you must first shut it down prior to enabling NuoDB Admin using the nuoagent stop command, then running the nuoadmin start command as follows:

Stop NuoAgent

/opt/nuodb/etc/nuoagent stop
Stopping NuoDB agent succeeded.

Start NuoDB Admin

/opt/nuodb/etc/nuoadmin start
Starting NuoDB Admin succeeded.

Note: When attempting to start NuoDB Admin, the following message may display:

NuoDB Admin stopped after 2 seconds.

To provide TLS-authenticated security when executing admin management commands, NuoDB Admin starts with TLS enabled. For more information, see TLS requirements.

Stopping NuoDB Admin

To stop NuoDB Admin (nuoadmin) in a environment where NuoDB was installed using a Debian Package Utility or a RedHat Package Manager, run the following script:

service nuoadmin stop

To stop nuoadmin in a environment where NuoDB was installed using a Linux tar file, run the following script:

/opt/nuodb/etc/nuoadmin stop

Switching Between NuoDB Admin (nuoadmin) and NuoAgent

nuoagent is NuoDB's previous generation of database and domain administration tool, which may still be in use for some domains.

Note: The commands below shut down NuoDB Admin (if it is running) prior to starting nuoagent. This ensures the two admin tiers are not running simultaneously

To stop nuoadmin and revert to nuoagent, follow the instructions below.

To stop (nuoadmin) in a environment where NuoDB was installed using a Debian Package Utility or a RedHat Package Manager, run the following script:

/opt/nuodb/etc/nuoadmin-enable --revert
/opt/nuodb/etc/nuoagent start

To stop (nuoadmin) in a environment where NuoDB was installed using a Linux tar file, run the following script:

/opt/nuodb/etc/nuoadmin stop
/opt/nuodb/etc/nuoagent start
