Managing NuoDB Services on Windows

To use the Windows Service dialot to start or stop NuoDB services (broker/agent or REST services):

  1. Open the Services dialog (Start | Service ) or click Start and type services.msc in the textbox and press Enter .

  2. In the Services dialog, select NuoDB Agent and/or NuoDB RestSvc and then click either Stop or Restart to stop or restart the service.

To use the Windows command line to start services:

net start "NuoDB Agent"
net start "NuoDB RestSvc"

To use the Windows command line to stop services:

net stop "NuoDB Agent"
net stop "NuoDB RestSvc"

To use the Windows command line to start the NuoDB system tray monitor:

javaw -jar "C:\Program Files\NuoDB\jar\nuodbtraymonitor.jar" "C:\Program Files\NuoDB"

By default, NuoDB installers do not automatically start or register services for automatic start upon reboot. The Windows installer prompts you to indicate if you want to start services when installation is complete.

The expectation is that you typically have the broker and REST services automatically started on a single developer machine. When provisioning additional hosts to a domain, the domain administrator typically installs NuoDB without specifying automatic start, edits the properties (see Host Properties (default.properties)), and then sets the services to automatically start. See Creating the Domain and Adding Hosts. The following explains how to control auto-start by using the standard service mechanism on Windows.

To disable automatic restarting of NuoDB services on Windows, run the following commands:

  1. Open the Services dialog using (Start |Services) or by running services.msc as described above.
  2. Right-click NuoDB Agent and choose Properties. The NuoDB Agent Properties dialog opens.
  3. In the Startup Type drop-down list, select Manual, then click Apply and then OK. The NuoDB agent process will not automatically start at reboot.
  4. Repeat steps 1-3 for the the other NuoDB services, if desired.

To enable automatic restarting of NuoDB services on Windows, follow the same commands but instead of choosing Manual in step 3, choose Automatic instead.
