How Templates Help Manage Databases

A running database can change the template it uses to another template without interruption in service. If the process requirements for the minimum number of transaction engines (TE) or storage managers (SM) change, then the NuoDB enforcer will expand the database immediately. The enforcer will start new database processes but will not shut down any existing database processes. New database processes started by enforcement will use database options as defined in the new template. Some database options will not take effect until existing database processes are restarted.

Typically, for each database, a maximum of one TE and one SM will be started per host.
